Broadcast Booths Everywhere Shed a Tear

Finally, after season after season of wondering if it would be Brett Favre's last year in the NFL, word has come out that he is hanging them up for the last time (and it didn't take a Federal investigation and/or steroid accusations to do it *ahem* Clemens *ahem*).

There is no denying his legacy. 3 straight MVPs. Holder of all the major NFL QB records in the modern era. A Super Bowl Champion. The face of Green Bay for almost 2 decades. Many argue that no one played the game with as much passion as Brett.

John Madden was quoted as saying, "Well ya know, here's a guy, that, I mean, now that he is retired... we won't get to see him play again". Too true Madden, too true.

No word yet as to how Chris Berman is taking the news...

Classic Madden right there, that's why the guy has his own video game. Now I know people like Swole will hate on Brett, but I have to toss a great deal of respect his way. Throw the stats away (even though he set many passing records) this guy loved the game and showed up every weekend to play hard. That consecutive games streak may never be touched. Also, he led me to a fantasy championship this year so I have gotta give him major props for that.

Honestly i bet he still comes back, his ego is just too big. I won't believe it until A Rod is behind center the first weekend after Labor Day

It rarely happens, but I have to agree with the Knuckler on this one. It's weird... when he was playing, I didn't really appreciate his love and enthusiasm for the game, but now that I am sitting here trying to think about the NFL, let alone Green Bay, without Favre and it just doesn't seem right. If you can get over all the d sucking and gushing over Favre that many announcers did, you can't deny what an amazing feel to the game Favre brought. He was a great QB and an amazing steward for the game.

I'll never forget the Oakland game after his dad passed away. That is one of those moments in sports when you are blown away by the intensity and passion these guys bring to the field.

Oh, by the way, I made up that Madden quote, in case that passed over anyone's heads (Andy).

I just get so mad at how Favre gets all the credit for Packer success as if his teammates do jack shit. For example, that Oakland game after his dad died, no one ever remembers the amazing catches that Javon Walker made all night long which made Favre look so good. Sure he had a great career but i'm thankful its over so that i don't have to hear such one-sided coddling of an athlete such as what we had to deal with Favre over the last 15 years

I knew that was a false quote, but I was just going along with it. It wouldn't surprise me if that dumbass said that though.

I for one am very sad to see Brett retire. In today's era of players all about making $$ and selfish individual play, he was a guy who played with the same intensity and passion from his rookie year right down to this year's playoffs. He appreciated the game and what it did for him, as well as his fans. And now, as opposed to two years ago, he can go out on a high note rather than with hordes of fans and pundits clamoring for him to hang it up as a has-been.
